Les Expressions de Chanel – Illusion d’Ombre 88 Abstraction

by Sonia G.

What a week…  in one word  “Abstraction” would quite well define it. Too many things happened, terribly good and pretty bad, I had to fight really hard to stay focused at work and I just couldn’t win the battle.

I saw this Illusion d’Ombre by accident today, I don’t even know how I managed to see it, I was trying to get back home, kind of zombie-style walking, … by the way, I loved “Shawn of the Dead” so if you ever want to watch a silly but super funny movie just go ahead with this one… 😛

Sorry… to the point… 🙂

Chanel is launching a new collection, “Les Expressions de Chanel” for Summer 2012. In this collection there are many items, some are new and some are repromoted, you can have a look at the Chanel collection pictures in this post.

Today I got the Illusion d’Ombre in number 88 “Abstraction”, I was very tempted to also get the gold one called “Vision” but I have way too many glitter shadows in my Tom Ford quads that I need to use and that are gorgeous, I did not feel like I needed more glitter but it’s actually really beautiful too and I see many of you splurging on both of them !

BeautyObsessed has a very funny post and review of this Illusion d’Ombre in Abstraction, you can read it here, she has nice close-up pictures and swatches too.

From this collection, I may also be picking up one of the eyeliners in Silver, I still have to check it out in person since they hadn’t receive it yet. I recall my first High End product I ever had was the Guerlain Silver eyeliner, so many years ago, I totally finished the tube, till the last micro drop !

I swatched the quad “Variation” at the counter and I liked it, but I have a problem with the quads that are sold outside the USA, I hate their quality and formula, except for the “Prelude” quad, both USA and “outside USA” versions are fine. This Variation quad reminds me of the Prelude quality, the color pay off of the pigment is a bit better, if this quad does not launch in the USA and IF I manage to get a code, voucher or any way to get a price reduction, I may also buy it. The problem here in Switzerland is that Chanel quads are Chf 79 (USD 83), there is no way I buy it full price, it’s a total rip off in my opinion.

My HG mascara is the Chanel Inimitable Intense. Well, I loved it until the day I bought one that was completely dry, then I did not want to buy it again… I bought it again today since I really love the result on my lashes and I could not find a similar result with another mascara.

I took two pictures of the Illusion d’Ombre swatched together with a Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow that I thought was a tiny bit close, but the RBR has peach and copper undertones. Abstraction is an iridescent pink-coral with sparkles. I don’t like to wear it on its own, without a base on my lids it will just not last, I’ll set it with the RBR Veiled Lyrebird for example or something similar and I’ll also define my eyes with a dark eyeshadow or a liner.

Do you know if this collection is launching in the USA ?

Sometimes you can find special collection items in the site  izzysbeautyshoppe.com
That’s were I found the Chanel JC Fleur de Lotus and the Beige Clair waterproof eyeliner that weren’t released here !

Hope that helps !

Have the most wonderful sunny weekend !

Thanks for the shout out Sonia! I’m so happy for you that you picked this up too, isn’t it great? You took some lovely swatches of it here 🙂 It is available in the States as well as Canada (where I’m from)!

Hi Latoya !
Thank you for stopping by 🙂
oh yes it’s really lovely ! Have you also seen the quads that come with the collection ? I saw the new quads here but with the rounds pans, I cannot find them yet in the online shops like Nordstrom or Saks in the US, I probably need to wait a bit longer since I really want the square pan formula.. I just cannot be patient 😀
